Want to Improve Your Instagram Engagement? Ask Yourself These 3 Things.

I love spending hours creating images and writing captions for my Instagram account. Now it feels so rewarding, because I constantly see engagement and growth on my account.

However, it wasn’t always that way. I used to spend exponentially more time on Instagram and after I posted, crickets… I take that back, my sister would always like my posts :)

It took me awhile to figure out the secret to growing an engaged audience, and it required me digging deep and asking these three questions.

Do you really understand the community you’re trying to create?

It's easy for beginners to fall into the trap of just wanting everyone and anyone to be part of their audience. If you don’t define the common thread that runs through your community, then you don’t have that “unity” in community. You’ve got to define at least one major thing that everyone has in common.

Do you create posts for yourself or your community?

That epic ski day I had last week, sooo interesting to me. To my business community, not so much…

You’ll know what it is they want to see by monitoring the engagement on the post types you create.

Don’t know what your community wants to see? Ask them!

Are you giving 10x more than you’re asking for?

In order to get love, you’ve got to give the love. It’s a law of the universe.

On social media, if you want people paying attention to your posts and giving you comments and likes. Well then, you need to be going out there and giving comments and likes to their posts. And it's never just one-for-one.

Just keep give, give, giving.

Community is never about ourselves and what we can gain - it’s all about what other people want and how we can give that to them. If you ask yourself these three questions every time you sit down to do your Instagram marketing, you’ll start to see your community blossom.
